Banchan Restaurant

Banchan Restaurant in Parkmore, Johannesburg, began as a small family-run Korean restaurant looking to expand its presence and create a more vibrant dining destination. The project involved transforming an ageing office building into a warm and energetic restaurant and karaoke venue that reflects the character of the family who runs it. The design centres on a dramatic glazed atrium structure, bringing natural light deep into the dining space and creating an inviting, almost garden-like atmosphere. Brick textures, timber furnishings, and a large communal dining table establish a sense of warmth and sociability, while the layout encourages shared dining and lively gatherings. The result is a playful and welcoming space that captures the spirit of Korean hospitality — colourful, communal, and full of life — becoming a distinctive neighbourhood destination in Parkmore.
