House Pringle
Project type
Architecture
Date
2015
Location
Voelklip, Hermanus, Western Cape
House Pringle was designed for a semi-retired professional couple seeking a home that could comfortably accommodate extended family while also providing flexibility for short-term rental. Positioned to capture both sea views and the dramatic backdrop of the Fernkloof mountains and nature reserve, the house responds carefully to its setting and outlook. The design allows the home to operate either as a single large family residence or as two separate levels, each with its own private living and entertainment spaces, enabling the owners to host children and grandchildren during holidays while retaining the option of generating additional income through rentals. The architecture combines robust facebrick detailing with crushed abalone plaster infill panels, creating a textured and distinctive exterior expression. Generous glazing and carefully composed openings bring natural light deep into the interior spaces, while thoughtful planning ensures both intimacy and privacy. Horizon Studio designed both the architecture and interior spaces, resulting in a cohesive and carefully detailed home that has proven equally successful for family gatherings and visiting guests.
